I had fully expected now to be back living in the UK in Decemebr 2020, after 30 years of life in Hong Kong and Malaysia. But the arrival of COVID-19 changed everything, and I am now starting my 6th year in Malaysia. I am lucky to have experienced many different aspects of life here, and by studying the history of Johor and my ‘home town’ of Johor Bahru, I now understand much more about life in Malaysia today.
If you have followed my blogs, you will know that I have travelled widely in this country (see Where to visit in Malaysia?), so I thought I would use this extra time to write about my impressions of Malaysia. Well, that topic was far too large, so I have narrowed it down to events within Johor. This is not a book which tells you what to do and see here, indeed there are vast swathes of Johor which are not covered, but I use Johor as the backdrop to tell you something about my impressions of Malaysia and Malaysians from my experiences of living here.
I use photobook.com to print photobooks of my travels, so I now have a 100-page photobook called ‘My Johor Journal’. I cannot upload the full photobook project into this website, so instead I will present screenshots of the working file, but I hope you find it interesting enough to put up with these imperfections.
