Rantau, Negeri Sembilan (17th October, 2020)

Unless you are in a hurry, it is best to avoid driving on the highways to get from A to B, instead one can get a much better feel of the country from driving along its smaller roads. So today we were driving from Lukut to Melaka along a country road (N6) and we soon noticed a relatively large number of Hindu temples by the roadside. They were striking because the shapes of the buildings were different from what I am used to. There wasn’t the usual pyramid-like structure on top of the main temple, instead there were distinct towers which were round, small, and bulbous. We eventually came across a temple where it was safe to stop the car for a closer look.

This is the Arulmighu Aghora Kaaliamman Sannithanam temple in Rantau. We were allowed inside after having checked in and were free to walk around to admire all the stunning images on display. I have visited many Hindu temples, but I have never seen most of this imagery before. There was a distinct snake theme here, and I am still trying to learn more about what it all means. So for now, I present some of my photos and encourage you to visit this temple should you be in the area. We didn’t have time to do it justice on this day.
