and in August 2016Later today I will receive my first dose of the Astra Zeneca vaccine at the Pesada Johor International Convention Centre. So I have been checking what to do and where to go. Here is a little video of my vaccination experience…

What to do?

Information can be found on the Majlis Keselamatan Negara Negeri Johor FB page, but you will not find anything in English. I found the notice shown above and used Google translate, so here is a rough translation:

1. Make sure the information is inside your MySejahtera App.

2. Adhere to date and time of appointment.

3. Be sure to be present 15-25 minutes before vaccine appointment.

4. Use the same phone number registered inside the MySejahtera App.

5. Cross-country movement is justified by showing evidence of a vaccine appointment date.

6. Only one escort/guardian is allowed for those in need.

7. After the injection, do not place anything directly on top of the injection site.

Other needs….

Bring ID (same as in App).

Bring face masks. Encouraged to wear 2 layers - fabric mask over a surgical mask.

Bring a pen.

Make sure your own food supply/beverage supply is adequate.

Bring a power bank.

(Bring your own prayer equipment.)

Although not on this list, it is also recommended to bring your own bottle of hand sanitiser.

WARNING (Peringatan)

Passengers can be dropped off at the persada entrance passage. Parking is available at JBCC, Galeria@Kotaraya, and City Square.

Where to go?

IMG 1267

Trial runs have been underway this weekend to test the system in preparedness for today. Roads around the convention centre may be blocked and you might find yourself rerouted. The Police have provided this map, but clearly that don’t want people to read it! The green arrows indicate the Entrance Routes and the red arrows are the Exit Routes. I believe the solid blue box is the covered drop-off point. The pick-up point seems to be along Jalan Salim. I will find out later!

UPDATES… The directional signpost is easy to miss, so as you drive close to the Convention Centre, just slow down! The Drop Off point is straight ahead; it is a covered area which you can’t miss as there are plenty of staff there to guide you. The Pick Up point is a right turn into Jalan Salim just before the signpost. You take the small road on the right which appears to go down hill on the right.

In addition to the 3 car parks mentioned above, there is an open air car park on the left side of Jalan Dato Dalam. This is just a 4 minute walk away from the centre. There is an open tented area immediatedly in front of hte centre which I think is where you could wait while your partner is inside having their vaccine.

The whole procedure yesterday took me just 30 minutes.

I have a little video which Lawrence made as I came out of the centre and returned home. You can see this on our Malaysian Travels FB page. (I’ll add the YouTube link here later.)

Here is my experience of the event yesterday...

Pleased to report that the AZ vaccination procedure is very efficient. If someone is dropping you off by car, look out for the ‘drop off’ sign which is straight on, and the ‘pick up’ point which to the right, just before the convention Centre (Jalan Salim).

When inside, just follow the arrows to the ‘stations’. Plenty of people to ask if you are uncertain. At the first station, you complete the consent form, in duplicate. Do read my translation on my website (http://helengray.net/.../life-during-the-covid-19.html) as nothing there in English. The guy looking at my form giggled most of the time as I was a scary English lady (!!!) and he couldn’t answer my questions. So, be prepared.

Then you go to next station where they will ask about your health. A doctor will ask about your medications and then you sign the consent form and he/she will countersign it.

Next you have your injection. The nurse will take your phone to scan info into MySejahtera App.

Then next station is where you wait 15 min before leaving. They will check you feel OK and recommend Panadol if necessary later. Here you also get your vaccination card for your records.

As you exit, there are photo opportunities and someone to take your photo.

Head outside, turn left and left again down Jalan Salim to the Pick Up signs and await your driver!

There are car parks nearby and a covered outside waiting area immediately outside.

Hope this is helpful.
