Jalan Tokong and Jalan Tukang Emas (Goldsmith Street) are refered to as Harmony Street, because of the presence of temples to many religions in these streets. In this regard it is a bit like Jalan Trus in Johor Bahru.

The green-roofed building shown above is the Kampung Kling Mosque in Jalan Tukang Emas which has some similarity to the older Tranquerah Mosque. The original wooden structure was built by Indian Muslim traders in 1748, and the one you see today was built in 1872. We were able to take a look inside and see the ablution pool around the corner.

Near this temple is the Sri Poyatha Vinayagar Moorthi Temple, the first Hindu temple built in Malaysia in 1781.

Further way from the river you find several Chinese temples, the most ornate and the oldest functioning temple in Malaysia being the Cheng Hoon Teng Temple. We did not have time to go inside on this occassion but I am sure it is worth a longer look. Built in 1673 it was the temple used by the local Hokkien community.
